Not wanting to scare you
Or make you angry or amused
Or sad or surprised,
But I’ve been wondering…
Sometimes when we’re talking
We seem to suddenly strike a nerve
(Like when the power goes out
And your digital electric clock
Flashes the same time, over and over)
Then we look at each other
And, arcing back and forth
During the brief blackout of that glance,
The same thought generates,
Flashing, over and over again.
